Isaac Litton Makes History as First Urban Middle School Named a Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence Lighthouse School in Tennessee and Mid-South

Isaac Litton STEM Magnet Middle School has made history by becoming the first urban middle school in Tennessee and the Mid-South to be named a Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence (BRSE) Lighthouse School, the highest honor awarded through the BRSE program. This prestigious recognition reflects Isaac Litton’s commitment to excellence in innovation and continuous improvement. 

The Lighthouse designation followed a rigorous evaluation process that included an initial interview, a two-day site visit from Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence assessors, surveys and focus groups with students, staff, and parents, and a comprehensive review of academic and student performance data. After completing the assessment, the Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence Board unanimously voted to award Isaac Litton Lighthouse status.  

The Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence assessment evaluates schools across nine program categories, including School Organization and Culture, Challenging Standards and Curriculum, and School, Family & Community Partnerships.  Schools that earn Lighthouse status demonstrate exemplary practices and serve as models for other schools nationwide. 

“The insights provided not only helped us celebrate our accomplishments but also highlighted key areas where we can grow. This experience has reinforced our commitment to excellence and collaboration,” says Principal Chara Rand. 

With this achievement, Isaac Litton joins Warner Arts Magnet Elementary and Alex Green Design Technology Elementary as the third Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence award-winning school in MNPS.  

This historic recognition highlights the hard work of Isaac Litton’s students, staff, and families and reflects the strength of the school’s successful magnet program, which continues to provide students with a high-quality, top-tier educational experience.
